Introduction to the Sting Football Season

The Sting football Club's year coincides with the start of the school year and runs until mid to late November. In early November, teams enter play-offs to determine the conference, city, and provincial champions. Unlike larger schools, Fort Saskatchewan fields only a senior team; we play schools that have both senior and junior football programs. We do our best to compete and have a strong "Sting Pride".

Metro Edmonton Football League determines the schedule of games and governs the activities of all participants. In the past, the regular season has consisted of seven games with the top teams making the play-offs.

Practices usually take place each weeknight, immediately after school. The night before each game, coaches usually hold a light practice to walk-through rehearsed plays. Because we have a mix of new and experienced players, each player must demonstrate their competency before coaches will include them in a game setting. Coaches carefully consider each player's readiness in terms of game knowledge, skill and the player's ability to ensure their own safety and that of their teammates. Players are expected to attend every practice. If a player is unable to do so for medical or academic reasons, he is required to report in to the position coach prior to the practice or game. Players who miss practices may fail to learn key plays, or miss out on strength and tem-building activities.

Eligible high school students must be under 19 years of age, as of September 1 of the school year and are limited to three years of playing eligibility form date of entry into grade 10. They must be enrolled in a minimum of 800 instructional minutes during the semester of sport.
